As I look back on my 34 year journey I see many twists and turns, a few leaps and bounds of growth, then delays and set-backs. It wasn’t even til after graduation and a few years into marriage that what I should do with my life, what my purpose was, and what God was calling me to started to come into view. And now 10 years later I’m just beginning to walk in some of those things he showed me. Similarly, there is the story of Solomon and Adonijah in 1 Kings 2:15:
Then Adonijah said, “You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their expectations on me, that I should reign. However, the kingdom has been turned over, and has become my brother, Solomon’s; for it was his from the Lord.
You see David had appointed Solomon to take over the throne upon his death. But there was Adonijah, Solomon’s brother, who assumed power instead. In the end God did establish Solomon as king, but it wasn’t a straight line.
God has a place and calling just for you. It might not be in view yet or it might look like someone else is sitting on your “throne,” but God has it for you at the right time. If I can say anything to you today it would be to hold onto what the Lord has given you. He has called you to something and there’s nothing and no one that can stand in the way. He is more than able to establish you like he did Solomon.
As you reflect on your own journey, can you recall the promises he has made to you? How do they compare to where you currently find yourself?
