Trust & Believe: It’s Not a Bad Thing

So I was driving this morning and “Not a Bad Thing” by Justin Timberlake came on the radio. Can’t lie, I definitely had to crank up the sound because #ThatIsMyJam. I’ve heard it a few times already but this morning was different. Not sure if it was the warm sun shining on my face or the awesome Hazelnut iced coffee from #DD that had my energy on cloud 9. But the Holy Spirit was moving inside of me & the words surely did have a different meaning.

Said all I want from you, Is to see you tomorrow. And every tomorrow, maybe you’ll let me borrow, your heart. And is it too much to ask for every Sunday? And while we’re at it throw in every other day to start

When you see the song in writing, he is clearly singing to a woman who constantly puts her trust in others and things just never turn out the way she wants. So now she is struggling to open her heart to others who truly care. But here he is, asking & telling her to trust him. He can heal her broken heart if she just believes in him. Fall in love with me he says, I can make your dreams come. She waste all this time & spends money trying to find some sort of happiness just to find out that his love is free. She doesn’t have to give him all the time in the world, just Sunday or every other day. No matter what he’ll be there when she needs him.
Continuing my drive just smiling away, not because JT has been my childhood crush since like #FOREVER but I realized how powerful those words are. I mean isn’t that what God has been asking us to do all this time? TRUST in HIM! BELIEVE in HIM! Know that he loves us unconditionally & he’s always there, right on time. And it’s FREE! LOL Absolutely FREE! How awesome is that? #WINNING

And you may think that is easier said than done, well duh, no one said it would be easy. It’s hard to trust & love when you’ve constantly been hurt. Dealing with relationships that aren’t good for you, friends stabbing you in the back or maybe your parents keep breaking promises & fail to be there when you need them most. So naturally we start looking for things that might fulfill that empty space, but because they are things of this world, you will never be satisfied.

But here God is saying, put your trust in me, I won’t break your heart. Just give me one day, Sunday, or maybe every other day just to start. Let me into your heart so I can pour out this overflow of love & compassion that you’ve been dreaming of. You don’t need to waste your time & money because my love is FREE! If you just believe in me, I will never fail you.

1) Have you been hurt by others? Did you seek God first, did you run to someone or something to try & find happiness?

2) How has God shown His unconditional love for you? What happened? Who did He send?

Scriptures to Remember
Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah
Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of your heart.

  1. Thank you for sharing LaShawn! It was very thoughtfully written and the questions were great for reflection!

  2. I appreciate your story causing me to feel like I was right with you riding with ya jukebox jammin and double D ice coffee as Christ captured heart’s attention. That’s just like Jesus to hitch a ride and climb inside (our heart and mind at any unexpected time.) His Spirit speaks softly saying spiritual truths right through songs we sometime partying on. You shaped this blog nicely causing the message to savour and last…

  3. Isn’t it amazing how you can be trying to listen to a song on the radio and yet hear the voice of God in it? It’s not a bad thing!! I now trust and believe! It wasn’t always the case tho! 🙂
